Patton reviews Covid-19 preparedness in Ralan area

Wokha, April 25 (EMN):
Deputy Chief Minister and minister in-charge of Wokha district for Covid-19, Y Patton visited Ralan area in Wokha district to take stock of the coronavirus preparedness and had meetings at Governor’s Camp in Liphiyan village and Yampha community hall with the members of Ralan Area Lotha Hoho and villagers of Ralan area village councils.

Patton was accompanied by advisor of Horticulture Mhathung Yanthan, NPF MLA Dr. Chumben Murry, and advisor of Science and Technology Mmhonlumo Kikon.
In his speech, Patton shared concern on the porous nature of the border which Wokha district shares with Assam. He has termed the area sensitive particularly at this time of pandemic.

He stated that the four legislators have come to the area was to hear people’s grievances and to extend support in the fight against the pandemic.

Patton stated that recent up-graded community health centre (CHC) to primary health centre at Ralan and Bhandari areas are entitled to have one doctor each. He has assured to take up the issue with the government as those areas are prone to malaria infestation.

He called upon the village leaders, churches and NGOs and different civil societies to extend support to administration, police and medical department. He also urged the village leaders to take extra effort in identifying those drugs peddlers and addict as they pose a threat in battle against the pandemic.

Basing on recent survey report conducted by NGOs, Mmhonlumo Kikon stated that there are more than 555 drug addicts in Ralan area and 624 plus in Bhandari area. Citing reports that drug peddlers often breach lockdown law and order, Kikon said they pose a threat to the society.

Describing addiction to a disease, Kikon said they are not against them but to assist in different ways to prevent themselves from the dreaded disease.

Kikon stated that lockdown is for the common safety as the disease do not classify an individual on status. He said prevention is the only medicine.

Mhathung Yanthan stated that the Covid-19 team is monitoring situation in the district. With report of 5 Covid-19 positive case in neighbouring Assam compounded with porous border, Yanthan advised the people to take extra precaution.

He further advised them to utilised the vast fertile land in farming so that they do not depend on government in time like the current pandemic situation.

Dr. Chumben Murry has urged the people to take precaution to prevent the spread of the disease. He also urged the people not to panic but take information and deal with the situation positively.

DC Wokha and SDO (Civil) Ralan also spoke in the meeting.
