Kohima, April 6 (EMN):
Village health committee along with Dewdrops self-help group (SHG) has reached out to its community members to sensitise and spread awareness on the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) at Thenyizumi village under Phek district.

An update received on Monday stated that the groups initiated a campaign called “Fight Against Covid-19”, distributing face masks stitched by the SHG as well as soaps to every household, urging them to wash their hands frequently and gave a demonstration on how to clean hands.

Meanwhile, the village health committee chairman Vekedu Resu informed
Eastern Mirror that the initiative was taken up to dispel the myths of Covid-19 in the rural society and by engaging the community in maintaining hygiene and healthy living in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

He maintained that the village authority, following the directives of the government and concerned for the safety of its citizens, had imposed lockdown in its jurisdiction starting from March 28 and they have been “strictly implementing and adhering to the government order.”

‘Except for agricultural and emergency purposes, entry and exit even among the citizens is strictly being restricted,’ Resu said.

He added that the campaign was necessitated as many people were apprehensive of the myths and rumours doing the rounds.

It was also informed that the campaign has included cleaning of heath centre and other public places.
