Dimapur, Aug. 30 (EMN): An organic products mela, organised under the aegis of the FARM NE Project and implemented by the Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) with support of Caritas India, was held on Tuesday at Jalukie town weekly bazaar.
According to an update, ADC, Jalukie, TL Kiusumong, who graced the mela as special guest appreciated the DAN Project team for promoting organic farming and supporting the subsistence farmers to market their products.
The ADC said the intervention is a valuable step towards protecting the Mother Nature while ensuring and sustenance and livelihoods for the small-scale farmers in the villages.
Kiusumong exhorted the farmers to utilise available land for farming to the best capacity through the techniques and skills imparted by the project team. He also expressed his appreciation to the farmers who have come forward to sell their products in the market and encouraged them to produce more organic products, it stated.
Earlier, vicar general, diocese of Kohima, Rev. Fr. Neisalhu Carlus, invoked God’s blessing and director, DAN, Rev. Fr. Sajan Joseph, expressed gratitude for the cooperation from the line department and all the stakeholders.

Officials from KVK Jalukie, Z James Kikon and Dr. Babitha, Mecieto from NSRLM, Jalukie Town chairman, Hauneube Hiekha, principal of St Xavier College, Rev. Fr. Francis and principal, St. Xavier HSS, Rev. Fr. George, also participated in the programme.
Altogether, 32 farmers from 12 villages of Athibung and Jalukie blocks participated in the organic mela. The farmers could sell a total of 760 kg of organic vegetables during the day apart from processed food items and forest products and handicrafts, it added.
