Dimapur, Aug. 27 (EMN): Department of Agriculture conducted a one-day sensitisation programme on Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY) for officers from districts and sub-divisions on August 26 in the conference hall of its directorate, Kohima.

The programme was chaired by C Peter Yanthan, Additional Director-I, who also delivered the welcome address, stated M Ben Yanthan, Director of Agriculture, in an update.

Addressing the officers, N Husheli Sema, Principal Secretary and APC, asked the officers to disseminate technical knowledge to the farmers to enhance productivity. She also asked the DAOs and SDAOs to make an assessment of crop performance and anticipated production especially for paddy as many districts have received scanty rainfall.

Director of Agriculture, M Ben Yanthan, delivered a brief note on PM-KMY and asked the officers to be prompt in discharging their assigned duties.

Power point on the newly launched PM-KMY scheme was presented by L Hangsing, Joint Director of Agriculture. In his presentation, Hangsing highlighted the salient features and other information on PM-KMY.

He stated that PM-KMY is a security scheme for farmer pensioners. A farmer under the scheme would get INR 3000 per month after attaining 60 years of age. According to the scheme, a farmer has to voluntarily contribute certain amount starting from INR55 to INR 200 according to their age on the date of registration. He also mentioned that farmers could contact the concerned DAOs/ SDAOs for details.

It was also informed that small and marginal farmers between 18-40 years are eligible for registration to avail the scheme. He further asked the DAOs and SDAOs to conduct awareness campaigns on PM-KMY for the farmers.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the chairman.
