NYKS 10-day orientation training at Kisama concludes

The 10-day orientation training for Nehru Yuva Kendras, Nagaland concluded with Kelei Zeliang, director, Youth Resources and Sports gracing the closing function as chief guest at Bamboo Hall, Kisama Naga Heritage village. Around 140 national youth corps (volunteers) from all the districts of Nagaland attended the training camp which started on August 13.
The chief guest in his address called upon the youth to be a catalyst by bringing about change in the society particularly, the rural villages. He called the youth corps as ‘Champion of rural reformers’ and added the pivotal role of the youth in promoting the community in their respective areas thereby contributing to nation building.
He also called upon them to work hard for the upliftment of the rural community. “They are the bridge between the Govt. and the people as the volunteers can disseminate developmental agendas to the rural youth,” Zeliang said.
Jacky Ruihva, Zonal Director, NYKS, Nagaland also called upon the volunteers to be sincere in their works in whatever they do. Stating that sincere works can only benefit the community, she asked NYCs to implement the NYK programmes through youth clubs to link any agencies for development.
The zonal director also called upon the youth to do good documentation in every programme that NYKs conducts. She also mentioned that during the training a lot of stress is given to the participants to learn about the professional techniques of documentation for which the volunteers should pay rap attention to learn new skills.
The basic purpose of the training is to facilitate the volunteers who are to train and plan for village youth clubs as well as in providing information and education to them about the NYC scheme and other developmental programmes/schemes.
The principal objectives are to enhance the information base of newly deployed NYC volunteers so that they may setup a group of disciplined and dedicated youth who have inclination and spirit to engage in the tasks of nation building.
This would in turn facilitate the realization of inclusive growth ( both social and economic), to act as points for dissemination of information, basic knowledge in the community, to act as group modulators and group educator, to act as role models for the younger cohort specially towards enhancement of public ethics, probity and dignity of labour.
NYKS vice chairperson, Km Tilotama also interacted with the participants and after getting feedback, she also called upon the youth to contribute their service for the cause of others.
She also cautioned the youth to learn the advantages and disadvantages of social media sites.
The participants visited at Kisama where Nagaland Adventure and Mountaineering demonstrated some adventure programmes like sliding, burma bridge, rappling etc. They again visited Kigwema and Khuzama villages to interact with youth club members and learnt about their club activities. Besides, as part of the field visit, the participants also visited Eden Garden Children’s Home run by Catholic Mission for the welfare of abandoned and poor children and Mao gate for a brief shopping.
The volunteers also planted around 1000 saplings trees at the camp site and landslide area at Phesema which were provided free by DFO office during the training programme.
The various topics covered during the 10-day training programme were youth services, national youth volunteers scheme, youth profile in India, personality development, life skills, national values, introducing basic course on computer, managerial life skills, understanding youth club, sustenance of youth club, community mobilization, working with community, participation in democratic process, action plan, skill of organization of programmes, target of NYC, documentation, programme monitoring, evaluation of training programme.
The programme was animated by Ms Rosy, Albert, Pelenizo Joseph, Michael, Eyozol Pucho, Ruokuoviko, Ms Paulina, Marjit, Laxman and John Makhabo.
Meanwhile, the organization has expressed their gratitude to all those who were involved to make the programme a grand success.
