IMPHAL/ SENAPATI, August 31

NWU: Naga Women’s Union (NWU) today expressed deep concern over the Ukhrul situation for the last more than 40 days and said the August 30 Ukhrul incident is alarming.
Strongly condemning the alleged arbitrary killing of two rally volunteers and causing injury to more than 17 others in Ukhrul on Saturday by the IRB and police commandos during the protest rally against the ‘militarisation of Naga areas’ particularly Ukhrul district, the NWU said protest was against the unabated aggressive policies encroaching upon the ancestral lands of the Nagas and the tribals and disrespect for the democratic process of tripartite talk of Alternative Arrangement by the Government of Manipur
NWU demanded speedy removal of the imposition of Section 144 CrPC in Ukhrul district and the arbitrary actions against the public who raised voices against it. The government of Manipur is responsible for the killing and injury to more than 17 persons and for all the tense situation created and for all the consequences by not removing the Section 144 CrPC, it stated.NPF Manipur: The Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) Manipur State strongly condemned the high-handedness by the security forces who mercilessly ‘murdered’ innocent Naga citizens taking undue advantage of Section 144 CrPC during peaceful rally at Ukhrul district headquarters and demands immediate imposition of President Rule (PR) in Manipur state as the most communal Ibobi led Congress government has failed to maintain law and order.
“If Mr. Ibobi continues to rule the state, then the innocent Nagas citizens’ lives are not secure at all. Past incident at Mao Gate, Senapati, Tamenglong incident, Chandel incident and now at Ukhrul and tomorrow he may have plans to carry out genocides on entire Naga community,” NPF, Manipur State general secretary Athuan Abonmai stated in the press communique.
“The Government of India’s immediate intervention is therefore drawn to save the innocent Naga public from the hands of blood thirsty Ibobi led government. The innocent Naga citizens were harassed in name of restoring normalcy where there is no disturbance. Mr. Ibobi Singh, the most communal Chief Minister in the state of Manipur has sent thousand of commandos and IRB to Ukhrul district and promulgated CrPc 144 just to harass the peace loving innocent Nagas, physically and mentally. Appeals, demands and requests to withdraw CrPC 144 and its security forces by various political parties and civil organizations were not heard nor taken into consideration as Mr. Ibobi has clear intention to create turmoil in Naga society,” the NPF, Manipur State press release added.
“Two innocent precious lives (VS. Ramkasing and R. Mayopam) were mercilessly gunned down on Saturday by Ibobi’s gang, the Manipur security forces”, the NPF press note said.
“Naga people are demanding for early solution of Indo-Naga peace process. A peaceful rally was carry out in all Naga districts demanding early settlement of Indo-Naga peace talk but trigger happy Manipur state forces who are ready to kill any Naga on slightest instances fired on innocent civil rendering hundreds injured including women and childrens and two precious lives were killed. Many other may succumb as so many others got serious injuries. The NPF leaders, workers, legislators and Naga public should stay alert to face any eventuality as we cannot be part of this kind of communal Government,” the NPF, Manipur State general secretary Athuan Abonmai said.
ATSUM: The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) and Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) in separate statements have strongly condemned the killing of civilians in Ukhrul on Saturday by the state security force personnel.
ATSUM led by its president Muan Tombing has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Ramkashing Vashi and R. Mayopam by state security force on August 30 during a peaceful rally at Ukhrul.
This again has gone to prove the notoriety of the state police force in unleashing terror in public domain. The assassination of Ngalangzar Malui ex-vice chairman of Ukhrul ADC was condemned by one and all including ATSUM.
In the aftermath of the infamous assassination the government arrested 8 suspects from Ukhrul who are awaiting trail according to law of the land. But the government going over board in clamping CRPC 144 for more than 40days without any justifiable reason amounts to suspension of civil rights guaranteed in the constitution of India. To our utter surprise no elected representatives or ministers visited Ukhrul during all these days of its imposition. This goes to show the lack of political will of the state government to resolve issues pertaining to the tribals of Manipur.
IDF: The Indigenous Democratic Front(IDF) strongly condemned the killing of three innocent civilians and injuring of many protestors in Ukhrul on August 30.
“It is beyond words to express the anguish when state government went out of ideas and start combating its own citizens to resolve outstanding issues. Imposition of CrPC 144 is being abused in Manipur. It had claimed 18 lives earlier in Imphal. This kind of military brutalisation is unlikely to solve any problem. In the fitness of things the infamous CrPC144 being imposed to preempt chaos in Ukhrul be withdrawn immediately,” the IDF demanded.
