NUSU (L) seeks governor’s intervention

Dimapur, Sep 9 (EMN): Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami (NUSU-L) has sought intervention of the State Governor PB Acharya on various issues ranging from health services, library, infrastructure development, and installation of street lights within the campus.
NUSU (L) officials led by its president K Chumseli Anar made this appeal through a representation during a meeting with the Governor on September 6.
Among other demands, the Union has sought 24×7 health facility to meet the demand of 500 plus students and staff residing in the campus. Pointing out that the health centre is ill equipped in terms of manpower other facilities, the Union has sought the Chief Medical Officer along with RMO to be in station always as their absence during the weekends and holidays always create serious problems.
The Union also pointed out that there is shortage of books particularly text books for each departments at the Central Library. It stated that the worse sufferers are those from big departments due to the shortage of books. The Union has also demanded for sufficient manpower, computers and internet facility in the library.
The representation also stated that classrooms and hostel are in need of immediate renovation. It stated that most of the rooms are not habitable particularly during rainy sessions due to roof leakages and cracked walls.
It also apprised on the urgent need for proper university guest house in a campus with dormitory facility and construction of footpath towards the women hostel.
Stating that breaking into the hostels for theft during vacations has become frequent in the campus, it urged the authority to look into the matter by constructing the hostel fencing at the earliest. It added that fencing will not only contain theft but provide security to the hostellers.
The Union has also pointed out urgency for installation of more street lights in addition to the existing ones. It also urged to replace fused bulbs on routine basis without waiting to write application. In this regard, it insisted posting of the concerned department officials within the campus to monitor the work on regular basis and not deputing the linesman.
The Union stated that the Governor had assured to look into those matters seriously and do the best for the students community. Meanwhile, the Union has applauded the Governor for his concern towards the students community in particular and university in general.
