Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): The president of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Ninoto Awomi has called upon students to come out of the comfort zone of their homes and be agents of change by taking active part in social activism concerning the community and village.

Awomi stated this while speaking at the valedictory function of the 38th general conference of the Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) on December 20 at Matikhrü village in the Meluri sub-division of Phek district, an update from the NSF stated on Friday.

While pointing out that the Naga society is in a fragmented state where tribalism, factionalism, ‘departmentalism’ and clanism have destroyed the credibility of the Naga society, he questioned the inaction and silence of the educated youths saying it has done more harm than good.

“…until and unless we come out from those shackles, we will soon corrode away in our false sense of pride and vanity,” Awomi cautioned. He encouraged the students’ community to come out from the comfort of their homes by taking active participation in social activities, and public debate which concern their community and be agents of change.

Awomi also acknowledged the PSU for being an important backbone of the federation and appreciated the leadership of Joyson, the PSU’s outgoing president, and its team for always being active in the platform of the NSF. Awomi urged them to take courage and set their mind on their goals.

“It doesn’t matter where you are today, who your parents are, or in what condition you are, but it is what you want to become in life that matters. What matters the most is who you envision yourself to become in the future,” Awomi said.

Further, Awomi emphasised on the need to work hard in order to succeed. He urged the gathering to be consistent in their efforts saying that with persistence and a right sense of direction they would attain success. He told them that the efforts they put in would determine the result they want in life.

Awomi was accompanied by speaker Rite Khutsoh, and education secretary Kegwayhun Tep. The PSU’s outgoing president Joyson Yitsüthu delivered a short speech. A prayer for the new office bearers of the PSU was said by Ngusie Pfithu, a youth pastor.
