Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): President of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Kegwayhun Tep, inaugurated the newly constructed Kashanyu village gate, one of the oldest Rengma villages under Tseminyu district on December 10 at Kashanyishin council hall.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Kegwayhun Tep, who also hails from Kashanyu, urged the villagers not to accept money in exchange of votes during the upcoming general elections in order to bring about the desired change and development in the village.

Calling for unity among the Kasha citizens, Tep also stressed on maintaining harmonious co-existence with neighbouring villages in order to progress as a people and to live at par with the rest of the Naga people.

He added that Khwenphen under Kashanyu village, which is also one of the first Rengma villages, is a historical site of significant importance, particularly for tribes including Rengma, Sumi and Lotha. He stated that as per historical records, the three tribes once lived at Khwenphen before dispersing to their present respective regions of inhabitance.

NSF president further stated that Khwenphen and Mount Terogu merit to become major tourist centres if properly developed, considering its historical significance. He also appealed to the state government and the department concerned for necessary developmental works at the site.

The construction of the village gate was sponsored by Tesinlo Semy, retired joint director of Geology and Mining. The programme concluded with a prayer by Sam Tep, pastor of Kashanyishin Baptist Church.
