Dimapur, Jan. 6 (EMN): President of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Lok Sabha MP from Tura constituency, Conrad K Sangma, has exuded confidence to secure atleast 30-35 seats in the ensuing state general elections and form the government in Nagaland.

Addressing media persons at a press conference on January 6 held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, Sangma, who is on his first visit to Nagaland after the party was launched in the state asserted, “Nagaland is going through a very difficult phase. There is a thick political crisis that is going on in the state.”

When questioned on NPP’s stand on the Naga peace talk, Sangma said the party has involved in discussion with senior political leaders. “Naga peace talk is critical not only for Nagaland but the entire northeast region which is a complicated issue that should be worked towards for amicable solution. Peace is crucial for the region and everyone is looking forward for peace talk,” communicated the party leader.

While acknowledging the clean election campaign initiated by the NBCC, Sangma expressed hoped that people of the state would come out and vote for clean election.

“Recently in Meghalaya, eight Congress MLAs including members from UDP and Independent have resigned and joined the NPP. This has been a big boost for the party as a whole. There is a large amount of anti-government in Meghalaya and because of that I am confidently telling you that NPP will be forming the next government in Meghalaya,” asserted the MP.

Reiterating on the formation of NPP by the then Meghalaya chief minister PA Sangma, Sangma said the party was formed with the idea that there must be a political platform for the people of northeast.

‘There must be a political platform that raises the issues of the northeast to bring the different tribes and communities of the northeast under one platform. This idea still continues and this is the idea with which we have started to work and strengthen NPP,’ the MP asserted.

“I am happy to say that lots of young people as well as the experienced people, who wanted to do so much for the state, have come together to join the party because they feel this is the party that will allow them to bring out the vision and allow them to do the work that they wanted to do for the people of the state,” Sangma added.

The MP affirmed added that the party is focussing on good governance and ensured that the money meant for the people will reach in the people. Sangma was confident that people would be connected with the idea of NPP and give chance to the party.

NPP Nagaland president Ato Yepthomi, national general secretary Vivekraj Wangkhem, and the state general secretary Susank Ghatraj were present at the press conference.
