Dimapur, July 15 (EMN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Phek division has expressed its dismay over the steady fuel price rise in the state, which it said is adversely affecting the common people through rampant hike in the prices of essential commodities.

The party informed through a press release that its Phek district unit has a consultative meeting on Wednesday at Phek Town, where several issues were discussed.

It stated that the ‘PDA government has totally failed to come out with any concrete mechanism to check the price escalation of goods’, thus allowing few dealers to take undue advantage of the lockdown and monopolise the markets.

It added that the government “should device effective policy to curb the menace and mitigate the sufferings of the public with all sincerity”.

Informing that the drought-like situation in the state has adversely affected many farmers as they are unable to cultivate their terrace fields or to carry out other agricultural activities, it said the government should extend assistance to the most affected areas.

The Phek unit of the party also expressed dismay at the indifferent attitude of the PDA government, accusing it of not maintaining accountability and transparency in the use of Covid-19 fund sent by the Centre and evading NPF’s demand to reveal the expenditure.

It went on to ‘demand the government to immediately address medical requirements of the district, especially the shortage of doctors, nurses and equipment’, and to work on a war footing for a possible Covid-19 third wave.

Lauds sanctioning of 2-lane road

Meanwhile, the NPF Phek division expressed its appreciation to the Centre government for sanctioning mega 2-lane road projects in the district and urged the implementing agency –NHIDCL — to closely monitor the work and ensure quality workmanship and timely completion.

It also requests the public to give full co-operation and support to the contractors so that the projects can be completed without any hindrance.
