[dropcap]T[/dropcap]o the people, the April 30 Kohima’s Special General Convention of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) was an explicit signal for reconciliation. To the already disturbed people they could not ask for more when such event was organised.
The people have been really disturbed by the prolonged infighting of the Naga People’s Front as it has resulted in the disruption of the government functioning in the state to a great extent. They heaved a sigh of relief after the Noke led NPF made a move of reconciliation. Amidst this development the Shurhozelie led NPF convened the Special General Convention. The people saw this Thursday’s Special General Convention more as a platform for reconciliation rather than anything else. Hence, the event has attracted a large number of people. For the fact that it was a convention convened by Shurhozelie led NPF obviously the organizers should have the last laugh, at least in public view. But how official and concrete was the April 30 convention?
Just little over five months ago the NPF had the general convention in Kohima pledging to endorse the leadership to whom they had done it on Thursday. Can anyone guarantee that another general convention of the NPF will not happen in the next few months? Going by the track, things will remain slacked for sometimes.
The absence of certain prominent leaders of the Cock party in the Special General Convention in Kohima on Thursday has also created some rooms for speculation. It is also still sketchy whether every NPF divisional unit has pitched in to strengthen the leadership of Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu in the April 30 convention.
In the next few days’ time the question of reshuffle/induction of new ministers or parliamentary secretaries will keep the NPF leaders busy. Any wrong choice can create pandemonium which can in turn create a situation to have another general convention though it is everyone’s hope that things are fine.
