Dimapur, Aug. 22 (EMN): Accusing the state government of completely failing to control prices in the markets, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded for an independent pricing commission headed by a High Court judge as per its memorandum submitted to the state Governor on July 16, 2021.

A NPCC’s statement issued by its president, K Therie, made the demand following news report wherein a local trader was found tampering the price tags of hardware goods by the SIT of NSCN (IM) and termed such crimes as punishable under laid down laws.

NPCC also stated that crimes, if any, should be reported to the district administration and police for justice as per the law. It, however, stated that issuing quit notice was also not acceptable as such act goes beyond the prescribed political negotiations and also against the freedom of citizens to reside and settle.

It, therefore, urged the district administration to intervene immediately and ensure peace of minds.

Stating that it should be the duty of state government to control prices under the Essential Commodities Act, NPCC has accused the government of completely failing to control prices besides multi-govt illegal taxes added on all items. While reminding that common people are ultimate sufferers, NPCC urged the state government to intervene without any bias and enforce the law to ensure that consumers are protected.
