Dimapur, July 28 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused the Naga People’s Front (NPF) of trying to “cover up its selfish motive behind Naga political situation”, saying that the party should tell the people how opposition-less government plans to resolve the Naga issue instead of engaging in hollow talks.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the NPCC stated that the NPF has surrendered their much-acclaimed regional pride by supporting the concept of an opposition-less government.

It also cautioned the NPF as well as NDPP and BJP not to use Naga political issue in order to “put all other important issues of governance into cold storage”.

“For Congress, opposition-less govt has nothing to do with Naga political solution. If the elected members are serious enough, they must pave the way by resigning or the council of ministers should advice and aid the Governor in implementation of solution which has been put in cold storage,” read the press release.

Maintaining that NPF need not remind the party about “being rejected or accepted by the people”, it said that it couldn’t ignore people’s yearning for peace, progress and development.

“It is also unfortunate that some civil society organisations (CSOs) have openly come out in support of opposition-less govt. This exposes their limited understanding about functions of democracy where strong opposition plays an equally important role in matters of governance,” it stated.
