Dimapur, Dec. 4 (EMN): Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) commemorated National Pollution Control Day on December 2 by organising a bicycle rally. The rally was conducted under the Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) to create awareness and educate the general public on the theme ‘Pedal for clean environment.’

An update from NPCB stated that the rally started at 8:30 am from City Square Shopping Centre in Chümoukedima and culminated at NPCB office in Dimapur covering a distance of 16 km.

A total of 20 cyclists including those from Gear Thrills Cycling Club, Eco Warriors and individual cyclists took part in the rally.

Before the rally, an informal programme was held wherein Limitsa S Sangtam, scientist B at NPCB, delivered the welcome address.

The NPCB chairman, Rusovil John, spoke on the importance of taking preventive measures to protect the environment. He informed that the main objective of commemorating the National Pollution Control Day was to raise awareness about pollution control measures and prevention of industrial disasters.

“Cycling is one of the better mediums to spread the message of a clean environment,” he said before flagging off the rally.

Later, the cyclists were received by K Hukato Chishi, member secretary of NPCB and EIACP coordinator at the NPCB office. Chishi, in his address, shared his concern on nature and humanity and also dwelled on solid wastes including plastic, C&D and E-wastes. He also stressed on the importance of awareness in both the government and individual sectors.

The rally concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Khriehunuo Rutsa, programme officer of EIACP, NPCB.
