Dimapur, September 9 : The 32nd Assam Rifles have reported the arrest of several high-ranking members of the NNC (non-accordist) and the FGN, including Kiumukam Yimchunger, president of the NNC (non-accordist), for extortion activities. The Assam Rifles authorities issued a press release on Friday with updates.
Besides the group’s president, a “captain” and a “home secretary” were among the arrested.
The 32nd Assam Rifles said to have conducted four successive operations between August 28 and September 3 in Dimapur that led to the arrest of high-ranked cadres of the FGN, NNC (non-accordist), “over ground workers” of NNC (non-accordist) and ‘armed peddlers.’
Two .22 pistols, cash, and incriminating documents were recovered in the operations, the IGAR informed in the press release.
The first operation was launched in the general areas of Ghorapati on August 28 following complaints about extortion in the area. Personnel of the 32nd Assam Rifles apprehended two individuals who were allegedly carrying “slips” of the FGN and NNC (non-accordist).
“The extortionists were identified as SS Rajapeyu Ashika Achumi S/o Shebikhu Achumi, aged 33 years of FGN and Capt Nitoho S/o Qhutovi, aged 33 years of NNC (non-accordist). Both apprehendees (sic) along with the recovered items were later handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation,” the press release stated.
The second operation, the authorities said, was launched in the general areas of Naharbari on August 29. The press release stated: “Various incriminating documents and rubber stamps pertaining to NNC (non-accordist) along with extortion money amounting to a Rs. 65500 were recovered during the search from the suspected house. The apprehended individuals were identified as Kiumukam Yimchunger S/o Mukhe Yimchunger, aged 52 years, president of NNC (non-accordist), Mr Hanjikhuing S/o Muremong Yimchunger, aged 24 years and Mr Philip S/o Tsungmuli, aged 29 years over ground worker of NNC (non-accordist). All apprehendees (sic) were handed over to East Police Station for their further investigation.”
The third operation was in Walford on August 29, the Assam Rifles said. Based on information regarding the presence of armed cadres, troops carried out a spot search of a vehicle and recovered one .22 pistol, the press release stated. The occupants of the vehicle were apprehended and handed over to East Police Station with the recovered items.
“The apprehendees (sic) were identified as Selithre Sangtam S/o Pikyuse, aged 43 years, home secretary of FGN, Mr Lakimong S/o Yenluba, aged 26 years, Mr Hoveto S/o Khevito, aged 46 years and Kughavi S/o Viniho, aged 49 years who were handed over to Dimapur Police for further interrogation,” the press release stated.
The fourth operation was at Nutan Basti on September 3 during which troops intercepted a suspect and recovered an ‘illegal pistol.’
“The apprehended individual was identified as Mr David Zhimo, aged – 45 years, S/o – Latovi, r/o – Nutan Basti, was holding rank of Tatar in FGN. The apprehendee (sic) along with the recovered items was later handed over to West Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation,” the note stated.
