NHDCL conducts seminar on dissemination of government schemes
Diphu, Sep. 9 (EMN): A seminar on the dissemination of government schemes was organised by National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL) at the office of Handloom & Textiles department, Rongnihang, on Friday.
Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), in charge Handloom & Textiles, Fisheries and Adult Education, Madhuram Lekthe, said the NHDCL organised the awareness programme to help local weavers and also with a view to upgrade the weaving/handloom sector in Karbi Anglong.
“The Handloom department under KAAC is trying to develop the handloom sector by supporting local weavers by providing financial assistance and material to them. Our chief executive member, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, always speaks about promoting traditional customs. We are banning products coming from outside so that our traditional costumes can be promoted,” the EM said.
Assistant Director, Handloom & Textiles, Tapash Kumar Das, said the main purpose of organising the seminar is to inform the weavers about the opening of the Yarn Passbook so that weavers can purchase yarn at factory rate.
He said weavers have to buy yarn at different rates in the market. The rate is always high and there is no quality. But through the Yarn Passbook weavers can purchase yarns at factory rate through the direct supply by NHDCL, Das said.
“If weavers buy yarns with a yarn passbook they are getting a double benefit. They are getting direct factory rates. There is a 15 percent fee for the purchase of yarns through the yarn passbook and the amount will be added to the weavers account. These are the benefits of a yarn passbook,” the assistant director said.
Earlier, Debajit Baruah from NHDCL highlighted on the raw material supply scheme of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Lekthe distributed yarn passbooks to weavers. Forms for yarn passbooks were also distributed to weavers.
Joint Secretary, Handloom & Textiles, Michael Timung, also attended the seminar.
