NEZCC adds colours to Hornbill Festival

NEZCC showcases colourful dances of Northeast Copy
NEZCC cultural troupe presenting an item at the ongoing Hornbill Festival in Kisama on Wednesday.

Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN): As part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival, North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Culture, government of India, conducted a day-long cultural extravaganza at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on December 7.

The cultural extravaganza was organised to showcase Nagaland’s deep rooted traditions and its rich cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur, stated an update from NEZCC.

“It is a collaborative celebration of all the Naga tribes at a dedicated venue and it is known as the ‘Festival of Festivals.’ The festival is also a tribute to the great ‘Hornbill,’ which is an admired and revered bird for the people of Nagaland and also the Northeastern states of India,” the statement read.

An eye catching and colourful choreographic folk dance presentation was showcased by NEZCC, Dimapur, consisting of 102 artistes from the region. It stated that the artistes from the ‘Land of rising sun’ (Arunachal Pradesh) performed Erap dance of Galo tribe followed by artistes from ‘Land of red rivers and the blue hills’ (Assam) who performed Domahi Kikan dance of Karbi tribe, while artistes from the ‘Land Jewells’ (Manipur) presented Pung, Dhol, Dholak Chollom, Thang-ta and Cheirol Jagoi Stick dance of Meitei as well as Shad Pliang dance of Jaintia  tribe from the ‘Home of clouds’ (Meghalaya) and artistes from the ‘Land of highlanders’ (Mizoram) presented Cheraw dance of the Mizos.

Besides, artistes from ‘Land of snow lion and mountains’ (Sikkim) presented a dance Singhi Chham of the Bhutias and from the ‘Land of handicrafts’ (Tripura) performed Hojagiri dance of the Bru and Reang communities.

It stated that the rich and vibrant art forms showcased by artistes of NEZCC received a huge applause from the cultural lovers and enthusiastic gathering from different parts of the country and abroad at Kisama during the programme.

The entire programme was choreographed by Anjoy Kachari and assisted by Brajen Baro and Rajib Baro.
