Villagers clear landslide off road
Our Correspondent
Kohima, Oct. 27 (EMN):
For the residents of Akhegwo village in Meluri subdivision, Phek district, the heavy downpour did not prevent them from clearing the way for stranded travellers en route to Kiphire, along National Highway 155.

Landslides had blocked vehicular movement along NH-155 near Akhegwo village on October 26. It was the villagers who, despite the pouring rain, turned up with shovels, spades and other tools to clear the road—providing immediate relief to the stranded passengers. The villagers had cleared the highway for vehicles to pass through on the same day.

National Highway department intervened on Sunday morning and the debris cleared, according to the District Disaster Management Authority. However, if rainfall continues, the portion is still susceptible to further landslide.
