Kohima, July 22 (EMN): Central youth organisation of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) launched a ‘Clean Kohima Campaign’ on Wednesday.

Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Imnatiba, who is also in-charge of NDDP youth, launched the campaign at Old MLA Hostel junction in the presence of advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, and advisor of Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha.

In his brief address, Imnatiba said: “human race is going through a dark period because of the pandemic and this calls for maintaining a cleaner environment and better hygiene.”

Quoting the axiom “cleanliness is next to godliness,” he said during this pandemic period, people should continue cleanliness activities and also disinfect homes, colonies etc.

In this, he lauded NDPP youth for collaborating with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to carry forward the cleanliness drive.

WSSO HRD consultant of PHED, Thenusou Sekhose, said the PHED as the nodal implementing department for Swacch Bharat is joining the Prime Minister Narrendra Modi’s call for ‘Azadi ka amrit mohatsav’ – commemorating 75th years of independence.

She said a series of events were being organised and informed that PHED would be holding different activities including mass movement to promote sanitation and hygiene across the state till August 15.

She also informed that rural areas in Nagaland have attained Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in 2018 with support from all. She further insisted that all should strive towards achieving ODF plus status as sanitation and hygiene play crucial roles during this pandemic period.

NDPP youth president, Kelhouneizo Yhome, said cleanliness is a necessity for good health. He added that through the campaign, NDPP youth would not only focus in Kohima but would carry forward the same to other parts of the state.

The campaign was carried out from CRPF Camp Lerie to Old MLA Hostel by Southern Angami-I and II; Police Check Gate to Old MLA Hostel by Western Angami; Tinpatti Junction-D Block to Old MLA junction by 9-Kohima Town, Tinpatti junction-Sonürü-CM Bungalow by Northern Angami-I and II.
