Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has welcomed and lauded the “Joint Accordant” signed by the NSCN (IM) and WC-NNPG during a meeting facilitated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on September 14.

The groups had reaffirmed their commitment to the 2009 “Covenant of Reconciliation” and their commitment towards finding ways to transcend their differences in the greater interest of the Naga cause, read NDPP’s press statement.

“The NDPP is confident that such a public declaration will be truly followed in letter and in spirit. This also shows the sincerity, dedication, efforts and sacrifices that are being made by the negotiating parties in trying to bring about a final solution and settlement of the decades old Indo-Naga political issue,” it added.

The party wished the negotiating parties the best and prayed that God bestow them “wisdom and understanding as they work to bringing lasting peace to the people”.

“The NDPP further appeals to all stakeholders to continue to uphold the negotiating parties in prayers and stand in solidarity that a final solution that is inclusive, honourable and acceptable to everyone comes about at the earliest,” it stated.

In a separate statement, The Naga Rising described the signing of the September Joint Accordant as a defining moment of the year for the Nagas.

“This turnaround is what the Nagas have been longing and praying for—to stand together as one people and work with a unity of purpose towards our rightful place,” it stated.

It extended appreciation to Team FNR under the able-leadership of Rev Dr. Wati Aier for successfully mediating between the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) despite the existing trust deficit and divisions.

“We applaud the humility and courage exhibited by leaders of the NSCN (IM) and WC-NNPG to have come out in public to admit that they have ‘differences’, yet displaying the foresight to engage in dialogue and committing to move forward in nation building.

“We welcome the resolve of the NPGs to honour the Covenant of Reconciliation of June 13, 2009 signed by Late Isak Chishi Swu, Late SS Khaplang and Brig (Retd) S. Singnya. It has instilled new hope in the midst of the present confusion and divide.

“Much expectation remains on the NPGs to put words into action and to fulfill the public resolve made on September 14, 2022,” read the statement.
