NCC organises career guidance workshop in Mokokchung

DIMAPUR — The 25 Naga battalion of NCC conducted a career guidance workshop at Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School in Mokokchung on April 11. The event coincided with the fresh enrolment of NCC cadets for the training year 2023-24, an update stated.

It stated that one hundred students from the 9th, 10th and 11th grades including NCC cadets attended the workshop.

The senior principal of the school, S Lipokienla Imchen, who inaugurated the work shop, termed the event as a unique initiative by the NCC authorities to provide career guidance to the students even at the high school level.

The senior principal was of the opinion that the event would enable the students to choose their career goals early in life and start working towards nurturing the same throughout their academic pursuit.

“This will also help them in having a long-term, focused approach and avoid distractions,” she said.

The commanding officer of 25 Naga Bn NCC, Col CST Swamy, explained the way of life in the armed forces and the advantages of joining the forces as an officer through a powerpoint presentation and motivational videos about the army, navy and air force.

Col. Swamy shared that the starting gross pay of an officer is more than INR 1 lakh along with a number of allowances and facilities including entitled rations, travel concessions, canteen facilities, pension, free medical facilities for self and dependents in state-of-the-art military hospitals, Army schools and professional colleges.

He also informed about the availability of a number of sports and athletics facilities as well as adventure activities like mountaineering, white water rafting, rock climbing, sailing, para jumping, hot air ballooning etc. The forces promote the culture of regular sports activities and encourage the officers to excel in all aspects of life, he said.

Report stated that a large number of the attendees have expressed interest in choosing armed forces as a career option during the interaction with the resource persons. They admitted that they were not aware of such enriching and well-paid career opportunity before.
