NCC conducts G-20 presidency activity on environmental awareness

The NCC (senior wing) of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, from 1 NL Girls’ BN NCC-Kohima under the aegis of NCC Group-Kohima organised a G-20 presidency activity on environmental awareness on February 24 within the college campus.

An update from the associate NCC officer of SJC (A), Jakhama, Capt. Regina Razousinuo, stated that the event was conducted with Kezhodeho Tetso, chairman of Jakhama town, as the special guest and Keviprasa Rolnu, assistant professor of Botany, as the resource person.

The event began with an invocation prayer said by JUO Keneitsino Zashumo and introduction by Capt. Regina Razousinuo.

It stated that Kezhodeho spoke on the importance of G-20 presidency and the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One earth, one family, one future), while Keviprasa delivered a lecture on environmental conservation. Keviprasa spoke on the aims of G-20 presidency, which included economic change, sustainable development and saving the environment from further harm.

Keviprasa underscored the importance of collective effort to preserve environment, encourage afforestation, use of eco-friendly bags and of own water bottles, proper waste management, and conservation and preservation of biodiversity. He also explained on the effects of human activities on environment resulting in disasters, diseases, extinction of animals, affecting food chain, vegetation and habitation of living organisms.

He called upon the cadets to create awareness and practice the 3 Rs-reduce, reuse and recycle. He further urged the cadets to ponder on the maxim: “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”

The event concluded with NCC song. Report stated that Pudeshil Tetso, chairman of Zhodi Colony Council; Mesuhe Natso, treasurer of Zhodi Colony Council; and 24 cadets attended the programme.
