Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), in collaboration with Headword Publications, had organised a skill orientation programme on English language for the secondary school teachers on May 7 and 8 at Don Bosco Institute of Development & Leadership, Dimapur, and Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.

A DIPR report stated that a total of 262 English teachers attended the programme in Dimapur and Kohima. The teachers got an opportunity to interact with the resource person on areas related to English teaching.

Resource person, Alka Rai, from Headword Publications and ELT consultant with a vast experience in the field, spoke on the problems that the language teachers face in the classroom. She also made them aware on the importance of developing teachers’ 21st century skills with a focus on communication skills and use of English textbooks.

The objective, she said, was to enable young learners to be ready for the socio-economic world which demands that they are proficient with those skills. Among the many activities, she made the teachers undergo speaking skills with special emphasis on developing phonological skills.

It stated that NBSE plans to organise more of such orientation programmes in the near future for the teachers so that the young learners eventually benefit from such programme and become 21st century ready citizens.
