National Ball Badminton Championship begins in Imphal

Imphal, June 5 (EMN): The 65th Junior National Ball Badminton Championship for boys and girls was formally inaugurated at the main stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal on Wednesday.

Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh of Manipur state legislative assembly attended the formal inaugural function as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that discipline and patience are the two tools to become a champion for every sports person irrespective of their fields. He said that it defines the quality of the sportsperson and effort should be made to maintain these qualities.

Sharing his experience, Khemchand who is also a patron of the Ball Badminton Association, Manipur said that he was also once a sportsperson in his youth like the young sportsperson who were present here today. The efforts and the hard work he had put to become a true sportsperson, to win and bring laurels for the state and country was much more than the efforts he put in politics, he added.

A sportsperson should work hard to achieve their dreams of becoming a successful person added Singh.

The national championship is participated by around 550 players and 100 officials including coaches from 26 states.

According to secretary Th Tomba of BBAM, south Indian states such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala are still dominating the game in the country. In Northeast, the players from Assam, Manipur and Tripura are coming up for the national championships.

The championship organised by BBAM will continue till June 9.
