Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Director of the department of Industries and Commerce, K Hokishe Assumi has asserted that Nagas have a ‘weakness’ in doing business as they ‘want to become rich overnight without knowing the principles, profits and management.’

He shared that Nagas tend to sell goods at a higher rate, which will affect their business in the long run.

He was speaking at the launch of Educentre School of Business in Dimapur on Thursday.

While stating that it was encouraging to see many young entrepreneurs in the state, he shared that many of them initially start with “interest” but ‘after few months, they start losing interest’.

He said this was one of the main reasons for business closures after operating for a few months.

He added that unless ‘we struggle we will not achieve anything’.

‘We do not think about what has been invested but assume that whatever has been sold is profit, and also, we lack the enthusiasm to start steadily but want to get rich overnight,’ he pointed out.

He stated that business should be based on one’s interest and what one is good at.

Assumi shared that the government will not always come to their assistance, but “we are just here to let you stand on your own feet. We do not have any share in your business but we want you to stand up and do something where you can also earn your livelihood”.

However, he assured that the department is ready to help the entrepreneurs. Further, he also encouraged them to work together without “ism”.

Educentre School of Business

The proprietor of the school, Lezo Putsure, informed that anyone can visit their website and register for free. He said that the school has been established to help the aspiring as well as the existing entrepreneurs.

He explained that the institute will not be providing degree courses but focus on short courses where they will train people on book keeping, accounting, marketing and other subjects which are important for entrepreneurs.

The institute will teach the basics about business and also mentor those interested in start-ups.

“If somebody has a good idea, we let them build their product well and then try to implement the projects. Once the project is good, we try to find investors for them because what we want to do is scale business,” he said.

Local start-ups

Three start-ups from Nagaland gave presentations on their projects at the programme.

TenyiTech, a start-up by Betso-o Koza, Mhasheto Vero and Tesenlo Stephen Magh, focuses on ‘Health History Application (HHA)’, a web-based application/system that manages medical records seamlessly and detects early signs of viral disease outbreaks and tackle them efficiently.

Some features of HHA include booking doctor’s appointments, wherein hospitals can post or notify advertisements whenever a blood donation drive is organised, etc.

TechnoATOC by four members — Thejanguzo Chielie, Alongkum , Obangzungba Jamir and Chubalemba — currently works on Parky, which is an IOT-based Android app. Parky will seamlessly provide real time data of availability of parking spaces which will help users locate free parking spaces with ease.

Zeliang Codetech is a father-son duo start-up from Nagaland. Started by Zaiyigum Zeliang and Kangzang Zeliang, the start-up currently works on a project ‘PTI’, an app that helps parents and teachers interact digitally and track student’s performance at school.

The son is an eight-year-old studying in grade 3.
