Nagaland: Special Investigation Team visits Lamhainamdi-Kiyevi disputed site

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nagaland Police visited Lamhainamdi on Tuesday and took over the cases registered at Jalukie Police Station and Chümoukedima Police Station in connection with the incident that happened in the disputed area earlier last month.

The SIT has taken over the cases to ensure a free and fair investigation into the incident which occurred at Lamhainamdi on November 7, 2022, a source informed this newspaper.

The investigation team is composed of Deputy Inspector General (Crime Investigation Department); Superintendent of Police, Peren; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chümoukedima; and Superintendent of Police, Border.

The source informed that the SIT, which was constituted by the government of Nagaland and headed by Inspector General of Police Range, Nagaland, visited the incident scene on December 6 to take necessary measures for  further investigation at the state-level, while a case has already been registered at State Crime Police State, PHQ Kohima in this connection.

It may be mentioned that several people were injured and many houses burned down in a violent clash in connection with the land dispute between Lamhainamdi and Kiyevi villages last month. It reportedly took a violent turn after some youths burned down some houses built in the disputed area, leading to firing by the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel.
