Nagaland: Seven juvenile crimes lodged in 2021

Dimapur, Sep. 1(EMN): In 2021, a total of seven crimes under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special and Local Laws (SLL) were committed by juveniles in Nagaland, while six cases were lodged in 2019 and 13 in 2020, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.
As per the 2011 census, Nagaland has a child population of 8.2 lakh, with a crime rate of 0.9 % in 2021, it stated.
Out of the total crimes, total cognisable IPC crimes were four —unnatural offence (one case), theft (two cases), extortion and blackmailing (one case).
There were three cognisable SLL crime — Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (one case) and Liquor and Narcotic Drugs Act (two cases).
Among the Northeastern States, Assam registered the highest number of crimes committed by juveniles (206), followed by Meghalaya (60), Mizoram (33), Tripura (16), Manipur (11), Arunachal Pradesh (eight) and Sikkim (seven).
The report also stated in Nagaland, there were 18 juveniles whose cases were pending disposal at the beginning of the year, and 11 juveniles who were sent to a special home or fit institute; and seven who were discharged.
In terms of education, out of the seven discharged juveniles, two studied up to primary level and five were above primary to HSLC. It added that five were living with parents and two with guardians.
