Nagaland reports highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases in 7 months

Nagaland on Wednesday recorded 199 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since June 5 last year (309 cases), taking the tally to 32,530 and active caseload to 242.

The state last registered more than 100 fresh cases in a day on August 10 last year when 102 infections were detected, and highest single-day spike of 366 on May 13, 2021, since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Health and Family Welfare department updated that of the new cases detected on Wednesday from 1277 sample test (229 – RT PCR, 386 – TrueNat, 662 – Rapid Antigen Test), 187 were in Dimapur, 10 in Kohima and two in Mokokchung.

The state also reported recuperation of 15 patients – 14 in Dimapur and one in Kohima –, taking the cumulative recoveries to 30,439 so far, while the death toll remained unchanged at 687 with no fresh fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.

Out of the active cases in the state, 221 are asymptomatic, 19 mild, one moderate on oxygen and one severe on oxygen.

India logs 1.94 lakh cases

India added 1,94,720 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,60,70,510, which includes 4,868 cases of the Omicron variant, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

The active cases increased to 9,55,319, the highest in 211 days, while the death toll climbed to 4,84,655 with 442 fresh fatalities, the data stated.

Meanwhile, 60,405 patients recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients is now at 3,46,30,536.

With the administration of over 85 lakh doses (85,26,240) vaccine doses, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 153.80 crore(1,53,80,08,200).

Meanwhile, the Centre on Wednesday urged the people to get vaccinated and not treat Omicron variant as common cold, while informing that as many as 300 districts in the country are reporting weekly Covid case positivity rate of more than 5%.
