Launching of Planned activities for BBBP week at Wokha

Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): The Wokha district administration is conducting Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week under the theme “Empowering girls child for better tomorrow” at Bhandari sub-division from Jan. 21 to 26th. The Anganwadi workers and accredited social health activist (Asha) will carry out door-to-door campaign for BBBP at government offices, schools, and community hall during the week-long campaign.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS revealed the activities to be taken up in the district during the BBBP week at the DC conference hall on Monday. A consultative meeting of District Task Force (DTF)/BTF/Police and other key stakeholders was also held during the occasion.

Samoon urged the public to extend support for the success of the programme. He said that there are several government schemes relating to children and women which are carried out by the Anganwadi and Asha workers.

Lotha Hoho general secretary S. Abenthung Ngullie emphasised on the importance of girl child and women in the society during the launch programme of BBBP and assured all support for its success

BBBP at Mon

The district administration organised a street play in the streets of Mon town on Jan. 21 to spread awareness on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. Konyak Baptist Church, Mon Youth department presented a skit during the occasion.

The show highlighted on the need to educate the girl child for a better society

The District Task Force also held a meeting on BBBP at DC Conference Hall, Mon under the theme ‘save the girl child: educate the girl child’ on Monday. The house resolved during the meeting that ‘Girls Day’ would be organised in schools every month and create awareness about the BBBP campaign.

Longleng to join the celebration

The District task Force, Longleng along with line departments and stakeholders held a meeting at DC’s conference hall on Jan. 21 in connection with the week-long National Girl Child Day that will be observed in the district, according to a statement by DPRO, Longleng.

It was decided during the meeting to develop a strategy to involve local people, media and DPRO for wider dissemination and coverage of activities carried out during the week-long celebration of National Girl Child Day and for better dissemination of BBBP message and its importance to the local populace in the district.

The district administration has decided to carry out the following activities in close coordination with the Longleng town Students’ Union:

  1. Jan. 22: Signature campaign and silent march on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
  2. Jan. 23: Wall painting and postal campaign in important places of the town, awareness camp on various schemes and programmes of women and girl child.
  3. Jan. 24: Mini marathon for both girl and boy child with BBBP theme and celebration of birth of girl child.
  4. Jan. 25: Flash mob (surprise street performance of dance and songs), celebration of National Voters Day, felicitation of young girl voters etc.
  5. Jan. 26: Culmination and opening of BBBP stall on Republic Day.

The statement from DPRO, Longleng said that winners of marathon race will be awarded with a cash prize of INR 5000 for the winner), INR 3000 for first runner-up), and INR 1500 for second runner-up.
