Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Terming the state government’s call for a ‘consultative meet’ on July 17 to discuss issues concerning the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) as an exercise in damage control, the NPF Legislature Party has announced its decision to skip the meet.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the party stated that PDA government has the propensity of inviting public organisations and civil societies for consultations only after adopting resolutions and issuing government notification(s).

“The PDA government should deliver on its promise to implement ILP in Dimapur district instead of diverting the attention of the people with RIIN. When the looming threat is from the burgeoning population of IBIs, there is no logical explanation as to why the government desires to invest time and energy on RIIN instead of ILP,” it stated.

According to the party, the very purpose of ‘consultation’ was defeated the day when the state government notified that the RIIN process would be undertaken. “If the government is serious about consultation with public organisations, civil societies and political parties, it should immediately cancel/revoke all notifications/orders for implementation and first issue invitation for a threadbare deliberation on the matter.

“Otherwise, the NPF Legislature Party will not be party to some damage-control and image-saving exercise in the form of a ‘consultative meet’ as was done in the case of CAB where only after three cabinet decisions supporting the CAB, a consultative Meeting was convened at Chumoukedima,” it stated.
