Dimapur, Jan. 22 (EMN): With barely two months left for the financial year to end, minister of Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir has stressed on the need for improvement in office attendance in the districts and specifically called upon all the block development officers (BDO) to be present in their places of posting regularly.

Addressing the conference of project directors (PD) and block development officers (BDO) 2020-2021 at Niathu Resort on January 22, Jamir urged the officers to complete whichever works they have started and begin preparation for the next financial year. Stating that without fund release the department has no work, Jamir asked the officers to ensure completion of the work implementation and upload them on time.

An update from the Rural Development department stated that Jamir also commended the department for performing well and receiving various awards both at the national and state levels.

Also speaking on the occasion, the commissioner and secretary of Rural Development, Neposo Theluo, lamented that the previous year had been a difficult year as everyone had to work with a lot of constraints due to the pandemic and lockdown. He mentioned that implementation of various programmes in the field were affected thereby bringing down the standard of execution of works adding geo-tagging and village inspection could not be carried out as expected.

He requested the officers to judiciously utilise funds and not create too much liability as it would affect the programme implementation.

Theluo also insisted upon the officers to be conversant with the guidelines of the programmes being implemented and to be present in their respective place of posting. He further urged upon all the officers to come forward with problems while performing their duties so that the department might take it up with the ministry and get it solved.

The day-long conference discussed on various issues and also highlighted on programmes including Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY-G), Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), RGSA and e-gram Swaraj, Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Grant-in-Aid, VDB welfare fund, micro finance and UC, fifteenth finance commission grant to RLB and Rurban, MGNREGA and Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).

The programme was chaired by RD director, Imnukshila, while the vote of thanks was delivered by additional director, Liboni Humtsoe.
