Dimapur, Jan. 8 (EMN): The “March Against AFSPA” will commence from Supermarket in Dimapur near the Garden on Monday at 6:00 am and hold the night at Phiphema, informed the co-ordinators of the peaceful and non-violent rally in an update.

The participants will continue the march to Kohima on Tuesday, January 11 at 6:00 am and will be received by the public and members of various civil bodies, it stated.

The clarion call for a peaceful march from Dimapur to Kohima, covering a distance of about 70 km, has been initiated to oppose the extension of the draconian law in Nagaland and “to assert our rights and dignity as human beings”.

The update informed that all logistics have been arranged for the rally and anyone can retire at any point or join the march from any point. The volunteers/walkers have been requested to carry their own sleeping bags, toiletries, torches, necessary gadgets and accessories.

Pickup truck for carrying personal belongings and buses for transportation back to Dimapur have been arranged, it informed.

Participants have also been asked to wear walking shoes, follow Covid SOPs, maintain single file of walking, not obstruct traffic and avoid littering.

“Special request to listen and obey the authorities and not indulge in any form of violence nor destroy public property. Requesting the participants not to show our emotions, heckle or harass military personnel on duty or disturb military convoy. This is a purely non-violent and peaceful March. We shall silently march till the end,” read the statement.

While updating that ambulances would accompany the walkers, the co-ordinators of the march have asked those with prior medical conditions or with health issues not to participate in the rally.
