Nagaland launches Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight

Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): Zunheboto district health society (DHS) has launched Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) at New Colony Prayer Fellowship in Zunheboto town and all health units of the district on June 27.

IDCF is being organised with an objective to attain zero number of child deaths due to diarrhoea. It also aims to create mass awareness about the most effective and low-cost diarrhoea treatment— a combination of oral rehydration salt (ORS) solution and zinc tablets, an update from the chief medical officer (CMO), Zunheboto, stated.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. J Hokugha Sema, DVBO and DSO Zunheboto, spoke on the key actions and prevention of diarrhoea. He stressed on the importance of ORS and Zinc during diarrhoeal outbreaks among children.

The keynote address was delivered by Rosemary Vitoli, DPM (NHM) Zunheboto, wherein she gave an overview on IDCF which commenced from June 27 and would culminate on July 11 across all health units in the district.

It informed that ORS and Zinc would be distributed to children as well as to mother/ caregivers suffering from diarrhea during the fortnight. Besides, the healthcare workers would also demonstrate the preparation of homemade ORS and create awareness on prevention of diarrhoea to parents/ caregivers in all the health units.

The programme was chaired by Valerie Kibam BPM, Zunheboto Sadar, while the invocation was said by Holika Aye, sector pastor, and short speech was delivered by Akuto Yeptho, GB of New Colony. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Toli L Yepthomi, BAC Zunheboto Sadar.

In another programme, the office of the CMO, Longleng, launched the Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight-cum- training of trainers (ToT) on Anemia Mukt Bharat in its office’s conference hall on June 27.

In her welcome address, the CMO of Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla, encouraged the trainees to not hesitate asking doubts from one another. She has insisted on team work to achieve success.

Dr. Meren Phom, district programme officer (DPO), launched the IDCF and gave orientation on Anemia Mukt Bharat.

The programme was attended by CMO, DPO, medical officers, CHO, ANM, GNM of all the health units, BPM, BAC, DPM, and district community mobilisers.

On the occasion, ORS and Zinc tablets were distributed to various PHC, CHC and sub-centers.
