Nagaland govt., Patanjali Foods Ltd. sign MoU on oil palm cultivation

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and Patanjali Foods Ltd. (formerly known as Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd.) on Tuesday for the development and expansion of area under oil palm cultivation and processing for Zone-II (Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts) in the state under National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).

The state was represented by the Director of Agriculture, Nagaland and Patanjali Foods Ltd. by Subhas Bhattacharjee, Head-NE Region, Oil Palm at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima.

Patanjali Foods Ltd., with a turnover of more than INR 24,000 crore during fiscal 2021-22, was allotted Zone-II as there is a wide scope for oil palm plantation against an expression of interest EOI released by the department recently, an update from DIPR said.

It said Patanjali Foods Ltd. is already working in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Tripura.

In August 2022, PFL laid the foundation stone for setting up an oil mill in East Siang district at Niglok, Arunachal Pradesh. Another oil mill is proposed to come up in Lepah village in Langthlai district of Mizoram; two zones in Assam and another two zones in Tripura to take forward the oil mission, it added.
