Nagaland Governor, Chief Minister extend Tsokum, Yemshe greetings

Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have extended Tsokum greetings to the Khiamniungan community and Yemshe greetings to the Pochury community.

“Tsokum is celebrated to invoke blessings for a bountiful harvest and to avoid any unforeseen misfortune among family members during the time of harvest. This beautiful festival has the underlying essence of promoting unity, peace and harmony. Sharing of produces with one another is a wonderful practice observed during the festival,” read Mukhi’s greeting.

“Boys and girls take part in traditional games and rituals of the festival. It is important for our children to carry on the rich culture and tradition- Tsokum provides an opportunity to understand and appreciate the beauty of the underlying ancient philosophies of the community,” it added.

The governor stated that Yemshe is a harvesting festival and the Pochury community rejoices in the fruit of their hard work during this time.

“Our Pochury friends exchange gifts and care for one another. An important practice is the enthusiastic cleaning of the village by the people,” he wrote.

Let us take active interest, specially the youths, in safeguarding and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas inherently reflected in our festivals,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rio took to Twitter to greet the Khiamniungan and Pochury communities on the auspicious occasions.

“Happy Tsokum to the Khiamniungan community. May the Almighty bless you with a bountiful harvest. Best wishes for your well-being, peace and prosperity,” he wrote.

“Happy Yemshe to the Pochury community. May the harvest festival bring blessings of good health, prosperity and foster goodwill among all sections of people,” he wrote in another post.
