Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Saturday directed Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, to write a letter to the concerned authority for posting the required number of teachers at government educational institutions in the district.

The governor, who visited Longwa village with his wife Prem Mukhi on January 21, asked the DC to look into the grievances connected to the School Education department during an interaction with the heads of offices in Mon district.

On learning that Science stream is offered only in one Higher Secondary School in Mon, he directed the DC to ensure that Science subject is introduced in another Higher Secondary School, according to an update from PRO Raj Bhavan.

He also directed the DC “to write to the concerned authority and follow up to ensure there are required laboratory technicians and other medical technicians posted in the district”.

While maintaining that government employees, who constitute less than 1% of the population, are very fortunate since they are blessed with prestige and power, the governor said they also have additional moral responsibility since they are “highly regarded and has the knowledge to guide whoever comes for help”.

He said that job satisfaction is derived through doing something good for the people. He also stressed on the importance of taking care of one’s health through physical activities like playing games.

Speaking on Swachhta Abhiyan or clean India mission, which was launched in 2014, the governor the scheme has created wonders in the country with children in schools start developing the habit of not littering around.

Today the common site of throwing trash out of the car window in Delhi is not seen, he said, adding that the notion of sanitation is adopted through inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi.

He went on to say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision was to electrify “every house and not just every village”. “And today all the villages are electrified in Mon except for a couple of new villages.”

However, he maintained that the success of schemes depends on the practicality of the scheme, good leadership and strong monitoring at the lower level.

Giving his opinion on the briefing by the departments of Health and Family Welfare, School Education and PHE, the governor said facilitating water supply to 142 villages in Mon through the Jal Jeevan Mission may look not so significant but the scheme is very significant as water is a basic need for everybody.

Speaking during the interaction, the deputy commissioner of Mon said the district has potential in ‘Village Tourism’, citing many tourists visiting it due to the location and rich culture. He also said that the district has potential in handicrafts and handloom.

In view of the governor’s visit to Longwa, the self help groups under the National Livelihood Mission set up stalls. Cultural troupes also performed during the occasion.
