Nagaland government puts NSSB on hold; schools, colleges to resume physical classes in February

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio-led Cabinet on Friday decided to put on hold the Nagaland State Selection Board (NSSB) and wait for the cabinet sub-committee to submit its report to the state government.

This was informed by the minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu.

He also informed that the High Powered Committee (HPC) has reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the state and advised the Health department to issue a fresh general advisory in view of the ensuing festive season.

It was informed that the HPC has advised the department of School Education to take necessary steps for allowing resumption of physical classes in a staggered manner for students starting from Class 6 in all schools in the state from February 2021 while adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

He said that the School Education department would consult Home as well as Health and Family Welfare departments before issuing SOP for re-opening of schools.

With regard to the Nagaland University (NU) ‘odd semester examination’ scheduled to be held from January 18, 2021, the committee has recommended exploring possibilities of offline examination as well as resumption of classes by the second week of February.

He added that for technical institutions, new academic session would begin from February 25, 2021 while exploring for physical/offline classes.

The minister informed that the committee decided to increase the number of people from 100 to 200 or 50% of the hall capacity, for enclosed spaces with adherence to existing SOPs, for gatherings.

It also decided to allow opening of cinemas/entertainment parks and similar places and businesses- exhibition, subject to adherence of SOPs which would be in line with the government of India order and guidelines.

Further, the HPC decided to stop the restriction on issuing of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to tourists and allow entry into the state with a Covid-19 negative test report, as is done in several Northeast states.
