Mokokchung, Oct. 2 (EMN): Advocating that Gandhian philosophy is best suited for the present generation, MK Sinha, professor of Economics from Nagaland University, underlined the need for the youth to put their positive energy towards self development and the nation.

Delivering keynote address during a webinar organised by the Centre for Gandhain Studies and Research (CGSR), Nagaland University, on October 2, Sinha said that a healthy and biased lifestyle may look mundane, but in the long run it is effective and healthy.

The webinar was organised to commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the theme “Mahatma Gandhi and today’s youth”.

The webinar was hosted by professor Temjensosang, director in-charge of CGSR, NU, with professor Pradeshi Lal, vice chancellor of Nagaland University, as the special guest.

The theme speaker was professor Parmanand Singh, former HOD of Gandhian Thought from the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar.

Singh was of the opinion that the Gandhian perspective is losing its importance among the youth of today due to the craving for materialistic gain which has dehumanised individuals.

He spoke on how young people should indulge in politics but should not participate in politics without understanding its principles. Singh also spoke about the cardinal thoughts and actions programmes of Gandhi through his letters, writings and speeches.
