Nagaland coal sector generates 182.44 lakh revenue

Dimapur, Aug. 2 (EMN): The department of Geology and Mining generated revenue to the tune of INR 182.44 lakh from the coal sector during the 2021-22 fiscal year.

A report from the department stated that coal exploration activities were conducted in Melak -Tzurang Valley coalfield, Mokokchung district which includes Changki Coal Block B (CCBB), Mongchen-Dibuia Coal Block (MDCB) and Tuli-Yimchenkimong Coal Block (YMCB).

It stated that the geological report of Changki Coal Block B (CCBB) had been submitted to Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), Ranchi and the exploration activities involved geological mapping of 13.7 sq.km on 1:5000 scale and drilling of 3791.05 m in 21 ‘CCBB’ series boreholes.

The resources estimated for CCBB under different categories were 85.52 MT (332), 31.89 MT (333) and 18.40 MT (334).

Meanwhile, Mongchen-Dibuia Coal Block (MDCB) is the northern strike continuation of northern Khar coal block where regional exploration has been completed and G2 exploration activities in MDCB commenced from February 2021.

During the period from August 2021 to June 2022, the department completed exploration activities involving geological mapping of 2.30 sq.km on 1:5000 scale and drilling of 622.05m.

Tuli-Yimchenkimong Coal Block (YMCB) is the northeastern strike continuation of the regionally explored coal blocks and G4 exploration activities in YMCB commenced from March 2021.

The department informed that from August 2021 to June 2022, it has completed exploration activities involving geological mapping of 6.20 sq.km on 1:12500 scale and drilling of 789.90m.

 It further stated that MDCB and YMCB were ongoing exploration activities.

The department has also done preliminary delineation of coal blocks and status of coal exploration in Mon and Longleng districts.

In Mon district, coal outcrops were located in several areas namely Nokzang northern part of Mon District bordering Arunachal Pradesh, Tizit Area, Longleng, Oting, Upper Tiru and Lower Tiru, Mahan area, south of upper Tiru (Wakching) and Borjan dipping.

While in Longleng district, coal deposits have been found in the north eastern part and south of Bora Namsang village and in parts of Shetap village.

According to the report, during 2021-22, the department granted 14 coal prospecting licenses (CPL) to private firms/individuals for coal exploration and 23 coal mining leases (CML) for extraction of coal to individuals/firms.
