Dimapur, April 13 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has mourned the death of Dr. Viyie Sekhose, who passed away at his residence in Kohima on Monday.

Describing the deceased as an efficient, sincere and hardworking doctor, who joined Nagaland government service in 1976, Rio said he retired from service in 2011 as Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare Department after giving the best of his years.

“As a doctor, he was compassionate by nature, and for the care and service he had rendered to the people, he will be remembered forever,” read the condolence message.

“It is indeed a great loss to the family as well as for the Angami community in general. In this hour of grief, my family joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and it is our sincere prayer that the Almighty God may give them strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss,” it continued and prayed that the soul of the departed rest in peace.

Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister, also expressed grief at the demise of Dr. Sekhose, who “was an uncle, elder brother and a close family friend for decades”, as well as a doctor who was always there to help them during emergency and need.

“We owe him a great debt and we will always remain grateful to him. He has been a great friend of our family for many years, a relation we have deeply valued,” read the condolence message.

“Dr. Viyie had an exemplary career as a medical professional in the Government service and served the State and its citizens all over Nagaland with commitment and sincerity. He consistently put the interest of others ahead of his own, and in doing so, provided an outstanding example of Christian service. Apart from his excellent service career, he was also a generous person who helped others through several charitable initiatives.

“He could connect with young and old and was already prepared to help anyone in need. He loved sports and took a keen interest in playing and promoting the game of tennis. Our close association in promoting sports will always be remembered with fond memories,” it added.

Stating that the deceased would be remembered for his gentle personality and the positive impact he had made through his profession and charitable endeavours, Metha said “we have lost a valuable citizen” and that he would be missed.

“My wife and all the family members join me in praying to Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in peace. We also pray for the members of the bereaved family and convey our deepest condolences,” he wrote.
