Dimapur, May 8 (EMN): Nagaland Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCSN) along with various district units celebrated the ‘World Red Cross Day’ on May 8 on the theme “Be Human Kind.” The ‘World Red Cross Day’ is celebrated on May 8 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.

IRCSN observed the ‘World Red Cross Day’ in Dzuleke village under Kohima district wherein it distributed blankets to more than 30 old-age people in the village.

The programme was chaired by its managing committee (MC) member, Dr. Kepelhusie Terhuja, while speech was delivered by another MC member, Dr. R Rose Chakhesang, wherein he emphasised on the seven principles of Red Cross and how much the present society was in need of kindness. He also stated that an act of Good Samaritan would go a long way in saving precious lives.

In another programme, Dimapur unit of IRCS celebrated the ‘World Red Cross Day’ at Chatteswari Durgabari, Dimapur, with the deputy commissioner of Niuland, Ajit Kumar Verma, as the chief guest.

According to Verma, humanity is the biggest religion in the world as it was taught from childhood to help the needy people. Mentioning the stand of the Red Cross on seven fundamental principles, he stated that no one could stop them from serving humanity.

Stating that many NGOs were formed but failed to sustain as they could not do justice to the principles they stood for, he urged the gathering to follow those principles in order to sustain their cause and goal.

Also speaking on the occasion as the guest of honor, president of Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF), Yibemo Kikon, shared that this year’s theme was appropriately taken. Kikon stated that the Red Cross Society is serving the precious creation of God and are working to make the world healthier and happier. He added that even during the lockdown period, the Red Cross Society was the first to come out to the street and serve the people.
