Nagaland bye-election: NDPP announces its candidate for 58-Shamator-Chessore A/C

Kohima, Oct. 7 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Thursday announced S Keoshu Yimchunger as its candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the 58-Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency (A/C) to be held on October 30.

The NDPP took to Twitter to announce that Yimchunger is the official candidate of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for the bye-election.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton had declared support NDPP candidate on October 5, stating that it would stand by the pre-poll alliance with the NDPP which has been there since 2018.

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) also passed a resolution on Tuesday evening not to contest in the bye-election but to support the NDPP candidate, following the forming of an all-party government.

It may be mentioned that the bye-election to the 58-Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency was necessitated following the demise of NDPP legislator Toshi Wungtung, who was the advisor of Information and Public Relations (IPR), State Council of Educational Research and Training  (SCERT) and Village Guards (VG).

The Election Commission of India (ECI)  had on September 28 notified that the Gazette notification would be issued on October 1, while the last date of nominations is October 8 and the date for scrutiny of nominations is October 11.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October. Polling will be held on October 30 and votes will be counted on November 2.
