Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI) has lamented “many” Naga political groups (NPGs) scheming to exploit the business community and consumers further in the name of Naga national movement by coining different terms like “Mistiri Tax and Jugali Tax”, and urged them to stop it.

In a press release, the CNCCI stated that such taxes are “denting the most noble and honourable movement of Naga people”.

“Today, the age old taxation system such as house tax, ration tax, yearly tax, godown tax, transport tax, item tax, agency tax, MRP tax etc could not quench the thirst and greed of many leaders of the Naga National movement,” read the press release from CNCCI.

It said the business community and the Naga public had never imagined that “the Naga political groups and its leaders will stoop so low to come up with Mistiri Tax and Jugali Tax, an incomprehensible embarrassment to Naga national movement” and that it was nothing but greed to collect more money.

While expressing its solidarity with the furniture business community and EDBA, the CNCCI urged the NPGs and “leaders involved in collecting such disgraceful taxation in the name of Naga national movement to reason and speak to their conscience and immediately do away with such taxation”.

Stating that it had made it clear to the state government that unjustified taxation has made Nagaland the “most unfriendly business destination and environment in the entire country”, it asked the government to “immediately answer the Naga public and business community on its stand on such taxation”.

It went on to ask the state government to declare the action and steps it had taken to protect the business community and the public over the years.
