Dimapur, April 18 (EMN): Agricultural Technonlogy Management Agency (ATMA) Tseminyu district, Chunlikha block conducted a training programme on different application methods of tricoderma on summer vegetable crops at Chunlikha village on April 12.
The training was conducted by ATM, Kebegi Kent. She informed the farmers about what trichoderma is and how it can benefit them in controlling various fungal diseases and promoting crops, an update informed.
She also highlighted the various application methods and dosage of the bio-control agent.
Meanwhile, in a delayed report, ATMA Botsa Block under Kohima district conducted a training and field demonstration on scientific cultivation practices on intercropping of maize and French bean at Gariphe Basa village on April 1.
ATM Neitsizo Zumvu emphasised on the technical and modern scientific system of farming. Factors such as climatic conditions, soil type, management practices and cropping systems were highlighted to them, while ATM Hainenle Tep informed about the cultivation practices of French beans.
The importance and benefits of intercropping was also discussed. A demonstration plot was also set up.
A frontline demonstration on cultivation practices of kharif crops was also organised at Gariphema Village on April 12. Resource person Hainenle Tep spoke on climatic requirements, soil type, raising of seedlings, transplanting, spacing and irrigation. Nursery beds for brinjal and tomato were also set up with participation of the farmers.
Altogether, 25 farmers attended the programme and received maize, French bean, brinjal, tomato and chilli seeds.
Meanwhile, ATMA Kobulong block, Mokokchung also conducted a demonstration on intercropping of maize with cowpea at Longpa village on April 18. Moanaro, assistant technology manager, ATMA informed that ‘maize is a heavy feeder of soil nitrogen, whereas Cowpea are legumes, able to increase soil nitrogen by biologically extracting nitrogen from the air’.
The resource person also elaborated on the choice of crop species, density of planting, planting geometry, time of planting and maturity of the crops.
Later, a field demonstration on land preparation, sowing method and disease management was carried out by the resource person.
Free maize seeds, cowpea seeds, neemoil and Roban was provided by the district agriculture office, Mokokchung. 15 farmers attended the programme.
On the same day, ATMA Kobulong block also organised a capacity building programme on cultivation technology of oyster mushroom for Farmer interest groups(FIGs)/Commodity Interest Groups (CIGs) at Longpa village.
Nuksungingla Jamir, assistant technology manager, ATMA imparted hands-on training on methods of cultivation of oyster mushroom such as selection of substrate, different methods of sterilisation, substrate preparation, inoculation of spawn and maintenance of cropping room.
She also encouraged the farmers to make use of paddy straw as the substrate for mushroom cultivation instead of leaving it as a waste.
The farmers were also informed on its economical importance and its various health benefits. Later, mushroom spawns and polybags were distributed to the participants. Altogether, 14 participants from four FIGs/CIGs attended the programme.
