Nagaland: ATMA conducts various programmes

Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted various activities across several districts and distributed agri inputs to the farmers.

 Zunheboto: ATMA Ghathashi block, in collaboration with the department of Soil and Water Conservation, conducted a demonstration at Mukalimi, Natsumi, Yemishe, Sukhalu, Lochomi and Lazami village on April 20.

The demonstration was conducted on the topic ‘Soil Health Card Technology’ with the  objective to make the farmers aware of soil health, its fertility and to suggest crop wise nutrient requirements. Soil samples from each of the villages were taken.

At the end of the programme, organic manure was distributed to the farmers. A large number of progressive farmers and SHGs attended the programme.

Dimapur: ATMA Dhansiripar block conducted a demonstration on “Application of bio-pesticide against fall armyworm (FAW) in a maize field” at Singrijan village and “ Cultivation of king chilly in grow bags ” at Kiyeto village on April 18.

Demonstration on spray operation, application instruction for proper dosage, mixing and spot application of bio-pesticide was conducted by Viketouzo, ATM. Inputs like liquid B.thuringiensis and small garden tools were also distributed to participants.

Later, a demonstration on “Cultivation of king chilly in grow bags” was conducted by Moainla, BTM. The objective of the demonstration was to inform the farmers on readily available, low cost vertical farming as a kitchen garden project. King chilli seedlings were also provided to the participants.

Mokokchung: ATMA Mangkolemba block conducted a capacity building-cum-demonstration programme at Changki village and Mangkolemba town on April 20.

Capacity building on “Waste decomposer” was conducted by resource person, Alemnungla Longkumer, ATM. She demonstrated to the farmers about the preparation of waste decomposer solution, its salient features and uses in composting, drip irrigation, seed treatment and disease management.

While, Rongsenrenla Longkumer, ATM also conducted a demonstration on “Cultivation practices of bitter gourd”. Package and practices of bitter gourd cultivation, management and disease and pest control was imparted to the farmers.

 She highlighted the importance of planting distance, best time for sowing and inter-cultural operations to be practiced during the growing period.

Altogether, 33 farmers attended  the  programme. Seeds, seedling trays, compost mixture (Anapurna), waste decomposer, 50 litre plastic drum bucket and jaggery were also distributed to the farmers.

A similar programme was also conducted  at Yaongyimsen village by Tajungsola Jamir, ATM, Changtongya block. The farmers were highlighted on the importance of insect pests and diseases associated with the crops and its management. Altogether, 22 farmers attended the demo programme where inputs like seeds and biopesticides were distributed to each farmer.

Meanwhile, a demonstration on “Cultivation practices of cucumber” was  conducted by Toshirenla T Longkumer , ATM, Changtongya block at Liroyim village, Mokokchung on April 21.

Another demo on “Cultivation practices of pole beans” was also conducted by Tajungsola Jamir, ATM, Changtongya block, who gave a hands-on demonstration on preparation of field, importance of spacing and its irrigation.

She also stressed on the importance of trellis or staking as it is a climbing vine and further highlighted on the importance of insect pests diseases and its management practices. Altogether, 11 farmers attended the demonstration programme, while inputs such as seeds and biopesticides were distributed.

In Longjang village, C Amongla Jamir, BTM conducted a demonstration on “Organic production of okra (Lady’s fingers)” on April 21.

She educated about the concept of organic farming and the various health benefits of okra. A hands on demonstration  was also carried out with the 11 participant-farmers.

ATMA Mangkolemba block also conducted a demonstration programme at Mangkolemba town and Waromung village on April 21.

Resource person, Rongsenrenla Longkumer, ATM conducted a demonstration on “Cultivation practices of watermelon”.

Package and practices of watermelon cultivation, management, disease and pest control was imparted to the farmers

Altogether, 30 farmers attended the programme. Watermelon (red chief) hybrid and okra (Hybrid OH 940) seeds, seedling trays, compost mixture (Anapurna) and garden rake were distributed to the farmers.
