Dimapur, Aug. 10 (EMN):
Founder of YouthNet, Hekani Jakhalu, on Wednesday stressed on the need to mentor the youth in the right direction while lamenting that ‘the Naga society is consumed by tribal lines and division can be seen in every aspect’.

She was speaking during the sports meet of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union at Dimapur Government College ground on Wednesday.

She lamented that there are factions on tribal lines, social lines, Naga political issue and even in churches. “Where do you have time to think with clarity about the future or build the future?” she asked.

She asserted that if people want the state to grow, they have to stand together and say ‘enough is enough’.

“If we want to see Nagaland progress and develop, it is very crucial that you are mentored and nurtured in the right direction. If we seniors mess up your life, the future is very bleak,” she said.

She encouraged the youths  to focus on their lives, adding that “in the age of so much social turmoil and information in the society, you have to be wise enough to see which information to take, and it is important that you make the right choices in life”.

She further told the gathering that young people in Nagaland are talented, but their biggest downfall is their inconsistency and lack of focus.

She said that Naga youths are easily distracted and do not look at the longer goals in life.

“In life, you are bound to fail and there are going to be challenges but then you get up and keep trying again,” she said.

Maintaining that sports is related to personal growth, she said it is important to learn how to work with people because when someone cannot work with other people, ‘it spoils the working culture’ and thus ‘sports is something that teaches you to be a team player’.

At least 12 units from Dimapur are participating in the sports meet, comprising football for men and volleyball for both men and women.
