Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): A 22-year-old Naga woman passed away on May 22 while on way from Gurugram in Haryana to Dimapur on a special train for citizens returning to Nagaland. The train is reportedly scheduled to reach Dimapur on May 24.

The news about the demise came to light at around 11:00 pm of May 22. The deceased person was reportedly from Beisumpuikam village under Peren district.

Confirming the news to Eastern Mirror, Iraheu Newme, a travelling companion of the deceased person, said she passed away around 10: 30 pm on May 22.

‘She slept well for like three hours and we thought she was doing okay. However, I went to look for her documents and medical certificates in her bag, and after coming back, she passed away shortly after waking up restlessly and talking to herself,’ Mewme said.

The travel companion informed that the deceased was earlier suffering from various complications including dengue, and had also recently tested for liver complications at Gurugram.

Likewise, after the test results came during a check-up in Gurugram, the doctor confirmed that she had a damaged liver and had advised her to get admitted into a hospital at the earliest.

However, Newme said, her friend had already made up her mind to not go to the hospital as she wanted to return come home at any cost, and that she was having financial difficulties problems too.

Further, Newme said that the deceased had not been having proper diet for the past few days as she didn’t feel like eating. She was said to have been surviving on nutritious juice, the friend said.

Newme said that the deceased was bleeding slightly at the train station as she was exposed to the heat of the sun for hours. However, Newme said that at that time her friend was stable and had looked completely okay during the first two-three hours of the journey.

‘All she wanted was to go home and be with her family,’ Newme said.

“The dead body is currently kept at Kanpur Railway Station for post mortem while the special train had moved on to track for Dimapur,” said Newme.

Newme said she along with a male friend have stayed back with the dead body at the Kanpur Railway Station.

However, Newme said that the police are insisting that the father of the deceased personally come to take the dead body.

“She died without even knowing or having the ability to say what say was suffering from,” said Newme.

The president of the Nagaland Zeliang Students’ Welfare Delhi Haidam Zeme also spoke to Eastern Mirror. She said the actual reason for the death was uncertain at this time. Zeme said that the deceased had been undergoing tests for liver problems at the Modern Diagnostic and Research Centre in Gurugram.

The president of Beisumpuikam Village Students Union, Ireibam Tame, informed that the deceased was the eldest in her family and that she was the sole bread earner for the family.

She worked as a teacher in Adarsh English School in Karnataka from May 28, 2018 till December 11, 2019 before she left for Gurugram, Tame said.

Shanavas C, principle director for School Education, also the overall in-charge of Covid-19 related activities outside the state, told Eastern Mirror that the train has stopped at Kanpur and the railway police had taken the body.

“Right now samples have been sent for Covid-19 testing and if it turns out positive, protocols will change,” said Shanavas.

The official informed that if the tests return negative, the body will either be brought to Nagaland by an ambulance or be buried there, depending on the wishes of the woman’s parents.

“Only after the results arrive, we will know what is to be done,” Shanavas said.
