Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): In pursuance to the mission of Maharashtra government to plant 4 crore tree saplings in the ensuing Van Mahotsav celebration, students from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh took part in the plantation programme at Dahisar West, Mumbai, on July 7.
Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya, who was on an official tour to Maharashtra, initiated the programme to strengthen emotional and national integration amongst the people of North eastern India and denizens of Maharashtra.
Such involvement of the people of North East in government initiatives and programmes of the host State was anticipated to go a long way in blending themselves with the rest of country, thereby reinforcing the spirit of unity in diversity.
Exhorting the participants, Governor Acharya urged the youth from NE region to learn about other people and at the same time showcase their rich cultural heritage in order to create strong bonds and unity. He also exhorted them to preserve nature.
Stating that climate change involving global warming and natural disasters, such as floods are results of indiscriminate and reckless destruction of the natural environment, he said concerted efforts are required to maintain and improve the existing natural resources. He encouraged them to initiate contribution at individual and community levels without depending on the government to preserve the environment.
The local MLA Manisha Chaudhary and large number of students from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland volunteered at the call of the Governor and enthusiastically participated in the programme.
