DIMAPUR — The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and its Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) have urged Nagaland government to immediately cancel Inner Line Permits (ILPs) issued to persons from Assam districts currently under eviction drives.
In a memorandum addressed to the chief secretary, the organisations cited the large-scale eviction launched on July 29 in Rengma Reserve Forest, Uriamghat area of Assam’s Golaghat district, affecting over 11,000 bighas of encroached forest land. The operation has displaced many families, reportedly of Bengali-speaking Muslim origin from central Assam districts.
Expressing concern over possible cross-border movement, the NSF and ILRC demanded retroactive cancellation of ILPs issued to people from these districts since July 29, suspension of fresh ILPs to them, and coordination with Assam authorities for verification.

They maintained that the measures are essential to protect Nagaland’s cultural and demographic integrity during the crisis, adding that they are ready to assist the government with awareness drives, verification, and community coordination.
